Te Puna Reo Pohewa | The Marie Clay Research Centre
The whānau is the wellspring of children’s evolving languages and literacies from which they are inspired to imagine and create their futures.
Explanation of Design
The graphic design is composed of four elements: wellspring, harakeke, droplet with koru and stars.
The Marie Clay Research Centre is honoured to receive a te reo Māori name, Te Puna Reo Pohewa, to represent the work of the Centre. Mr. Michael Steedman, University of Auckland Kaiarataki (Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor Māori) confirmed this name, which evolved from cycles of kōrero involving Centre Director Professor Janet S Gaffney and Dr Tauwehe Tamati (Te Puna Wananga), who has engaged in research partnership with the Centre. Professor Melinda Webber, Te Tumu, Faculty of Education and Social Work, affirmed the name as aligned with Centre’s work, which is focused on early language/s and literacies, learning equity through privileging the linguistic and cultural taonga of whānau, and teaching innovations and teacher leadership.
Graphic Designer: Joy Grace Si’ilata.
We strive to live into the gift of this name.
